Hi everyone. A few weeks ago I installed the OME suspension on my truck. As I was applying the final torque to bolts that secure the lower control arms to the spindle with my cheap, bar-type torque wrench, I began to worry about how inaccurate that particular type of wrench is. Visions of my suspension coming apart at freeway speeds suddenly popped into my head. I worried about it to the point that I felt compelled to recheck the torque on all of the bolts after I drove the truck for a few hundred miles.

Am I making a mountain out of a mole hill here? Are the cheap, bar-type torque wrenches accurate enough for that kind of work or would I be better off spending the cash on one of the click types?

It was running fine when i bought it, but then I drove it a little off road nothing to intense, however afterwards it would no longer idle. Now i find myself revving the engine just so I don't stall. Since then I have installed pertronix, new spark plugs, new distributor cap & rotor, new spark plug wiring, rebuilt the carb, and put a new coil. Are there any suggestions, I have read basically every forum thread on the issue and still haven't solved the issue. Should i buy a new carb? should i replace all hoses? i just want to go the cheapest route because im tired of wasting my pay checks on what seems like an endless journey to idle. Thanks

I'm currently flat out with a messed up back...but trying to work contingencies if I can't continue to fly (at least for a bit).

Most likely I'm going to downgrade to F/O (which will give the required relative seniority to hold better schedules) as flying 5 4-day trips a month in crappy, worn out airplane seats is part of the issue...but I digress...

To do the downgrade and still have surplus to pay off our gratuitous debt...the FJ is going to have to go :(. Still, I need something comfortable and with an upright seating position to drive...this obviously means the M3 is out (and also might be sold if this back issue continues to be a problem). SO...that means I "need" an '80 (the way I figure it)...but my budget is only 5,000 to 7,000k to make the budget with the 50% paycut associated with downgrade work.

Here is one I found on KSL:

http://www.ksl.com/index.php?sid=0&n...iew&ad=2999694

Anyone nearby want to crawl around it? I'd be willing to pay you with a nice lunch in Kaysville/Farmington area (you'll have to drive to me or wait until I'm more ambulatory, though).

Thanks ahead of time:)

Issue: Steering wheel is off center. Requires a constant correction to the right (way off) to drive straight.

New tires in May. BFG AT in the 285 flavor. At a shop I don't normally use.

Noticed the steering problem (wasn't there before the new tires) and had an alignment done by Big O in Sandy (awesome with lifted rigs).

Steering still off.

Go back to Big O, they put it up on the rack again, and it is still in specification, so they swap the two front tires. Truck now pulls the opposite way. They inform me it is called 'Radial Pull' and it is a tire issue.

Return the truck to the store in SLC. They attempt to swap the tires around and make it go away. It doesn't. Owner agrees we need to replace the one tire he feels is causing the problem.

I wait 2-3 weeks, and a new tire is in. I go have it swapped out, leave in a hurry to get to school, and it is still off.

I looked at the tire, and it was a load range D, where the rest are E rated.

Called up the store, took it back in. Put it up on -his- alignment rack, and it shows as within spec.

He has put the original BFG back on, and is now saying he thinks it is a caliper issue. WTF???

History: New 100 series pads and rotors up front this spring, along with new wheel bearings.

An insight would be appreciated. I am supposed to drive it to Moab next week, and I want it right, dammit!
:dunno:

I know we have some firefighters on the forum, and have discussed safety at tech nights. But after receiving some free real-world training yesterday I wanted to take it a step further than that - and encourage everyone to practice how to quickly and safely deploy their various fire suppression system.

I have rehersed in my head countless times, and ran a drill or two covering all the steps that I'd need to do quickly access the fire extinguisher mounted in the back of my Xterra.

1) Unlock all doors (Nothing more frustrating than running back to get your extinguisher and have the cargo door be locked)
2) Have easy access to the extinguisher (Don't have crap hindering the extinguisher's deployment)
3) Know how to use your extinguisher!
4) Be familiar with the capacity of your extinguisher (My 8lb-er was gone in seconds - but did contain 4-5 bushes)
5) STAND UPWIND (I learned the hard way with a few deep lungfuls of smoke and fire retardant powder)
6) Aim for the base of the burning object.

I'm stoked with how fast I was able to deploy my rear mounted 8lb bottle. I remember rapid firing down on the unlock button as I rolled in hot to the scene of my buddy's rig completely engulfed in flames. I honestly believe that I reacted exactly as I had rehersed a previously to make sure my response time would happen fast. Have a plan, know it, stick to it.

I personally am going to be more prepared now that I've dealt with a fiery situation in a dry desert and 20mph winds (which was very moderate for the day). I'm going to add another large bottle to rear of the Xterra (10lb min), and mount a smaller bottle up front - possibly to the rear of my center console. That way front and rear passengers could have access to it.

I don't ever want to see this again, but I will be better prepared.

This photo is after the initial explosion, and you can see the burning bushes/grass off to the side. This is just about what the scene looked like when I rolled up, but there were more bushes ablaze.
